Sanyo ups ante with world's brightest projectors

Sanyo Brightest Projectors

Complementing the earlier announcement of the WXU10, Sanyo has also announced a pair of projectors designed for truly large gatherings. Heading the news is the pictured XF47: a combination of four 330W lamps produces an unheard-of 15,000 lumens, putting out enough brightness that images as large as 600 inches across will display clearly, Sanyo says. The system is also the first from the company to include a wireless video transmission system that can play 720p or 1080i HD video from up to 100 feet away with virtually no lag. Images are scaled to fit a 1024x768 resolution and come from either DVI or VGA, five sets of component and RCA inputs, or S-video.

A semi-portable equivalent known as the XP100L will also be available for meetings and other areas where a heavy-duty projector is impractical: its reduced light output still produces a very high 6,500 lumens at the same resolution and at a smaller 400-inch maximum size. Input and other features are virtually the same with the exception of included RCA audio and the removal of wireless HD streams.

At a relative entry level is the DXT10L, a two-lamp projector designed for adjustability with specialized lenses for near and far projection as well as a network-based remote control scheme: users can check status and change basic settings through a computer instead of the projector itself. Its brightness is measured at a still strong 5,200 lumens.

The DXT10L and XP100L will be available first in September, when they sell for a premimum $6,995 and $9,995 respectively. The flagship XF47 is due in October and will cost a professional-level $29,995.
