Lenovo reveals ThinkPad Reserve

ThinkPad Reserve Official

Lenovo has finally revealed the ThinkPad Reserve, an exclusive version of the company's latest X61 ultraportable. As hinted last month, the PC is carried in a full leather case that can stay intact while the system is in use. But extra support is the Reserve Edition's true specialty, the company says. The exclusive ThinkPad is the first to include truly international, rapid-response support: in major international cities, Lenovo will fly in on-site technicians within four hours. Users also have a 24/7 direct line to phone and online support and free routine maintenance.

The X61 itself is standardized but also includes top-end components. Based on a 1.6GHZ low-voltage Core 2 Duo with 2GB of memory and a 160GB hard drive, the notebook also uses Intel's Centrino Pro chipsets to provide remote administration to and from the system and has a cellular WAN modem for Internet access beyond Wi-Fi. Lenovo also includes an external 80GB hard drive for backups and an external DVD rewriter.

The Reserve's price is set at a premium $5,000, but is currently available as an invitation-only offer to some of Lenovo's preferred customers.
