O2 unveils distinctive Cocoon 2GB music phone

European cell carrier O2 today held a special event to reveal the Cocoon, its aggressive step into music phones. The phone earns its name through an all-white and completely rounded shell which hides extra features: LEDs underneath the outer lid light up for incoming calls and also serve as a unique display for the phone's exclusive clock radio feature, which is switched on by plugging the Cocoon into its custom dock. Music is supported even further by dedicated side controls, 2GB of built-in flash with microSD card expansion, and a native 3.5mm headphone jack for plugging in any set of headphones or desktop speakers.

The Cocoon is also capable in other phone aspects, O2 says. A 2-megapixel camera is built-in with auto-focus and flash, and unspecified 3G Internet access (likely UMTS) backs its mobile web browsing. Talk time is rated at 5 hours.

O2 currently plans to ship the phone to the UK, where it should be available for £300 ($591) on a pay-as-you-go plan or free when part of a £35 ($69) monthly cellphone plan. [via Stuff]

It looks like a hackney walkman-esque joke. It still uses windblows mobile if it's a smart phone, which means suckage all around. Plus, it's more of a novelty item at best. Easily broken, no touch screen, no movies or video, no wifi. iPhone killer, this has nothing to do with iPhone, totally different idea. Plus, look how freaking expensive it is!!!!!! Clunky niche product at best. Looks like it doesn't even have bluetooth.
