Dell Inspiron 1520 Leak

Full details of Dell's mainstream Inspiron notebooks has been revealed, courtesy of French forums citing special sources. The information validates Dell's own leak but greatly expands upon it: the 14-inch 1420, 15.4-inch 1520, and 17-inch 1720 will all have the option of up to a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo from the Santa Rosa generation but will also have budget options from earlier eras, including a new 1.5GHz budget Core 2 Duo and a 1.73GHz Celeron M in the case of the 1420. Graphics options will involve either Intel's X3100 or a 128MB GeForce 8400M GS on all models but will include a gaming-level 256MB GeForce 8600M for the two largest notebooks.

AMD-based offerings will expand as well, based on the new details. While the company so far only offers one system using the alternative platform, the update should add a 17-inch model named the 1721 as well as the 15.4-inch 1521. The two will continue the budget focus with only integrated ATI Radeon X1270 graphics as well as processors ranging from the unannounced mobile 1.7GHz Athlon 64 X2 to newer 2.2GHz Turion 64 X2 processors.

The introduction should also bring several technologies to the Inspiron 1000-series that have previously been reserved for the XPS or business-oriented Latitude models. Importantly, a 2X Blu-Ray burner is now an option for the 1521 and may become an option for its 17-inch counterpart; the latter will also have dual hard drive bays, while the 1420 and 1520 will have the choice of a hybrid hard drive with a flash cache to speed up disk response.

All five systems will feature a new, much sleeker look and will have multiple lid coloring options for at least the 1520. No release dates were pegged for the new Dell systems, but the increasing amount of information suggests a very close release. [via Les Delliens]
