Kodak EasyShare M-series

Kodak today released a sweeping change to its EasyShare digital cameras, including a completely new line. The EasyShare M-Series is designed to bring an element of style to photographers with tighter budgets and ships in a mix of colors such as copper (pictured) or espresso. Each of the four models being introduced today also claims a 3X optical zoom lens. The M753 and M853 are 7- and 8-megapixel cameras respectively with the most essential features and a 2.5-inch LCD; the 8-megapixel M873 and M883 models gain a full metal design as well as a larger 3-inch LCD. The M883 also includes face detection for simpler portrait shots.

First to launch in the collection will be the M753, which ships this month for $149. Following will be the mid-range M853 and M873 cameras, shipping in August for $179 and $199 each. The top-end M883 will arrive last in September at a price of $229.

Higher-end users also see a pair of new models in its Z-Series high zoom line, each of which adds digital image stabilization and on-camera image editing. The Z1275 is one of Kodak's sharpest mainstream cameras with a 12-megapixel sensor and a 5X zoom lens fitting into a conventional point-and-shoot body. In turn, the ZD710 is geared to 'prosumer' photographers with coarser 7-megapixel images in exchange for a long-range 10X optical zoom lens.

Both Z-Series updates will ship in August for $249.

    Essential features...

...would seem to include lens specs ie 5x zoom means litte without effective focal length eg a 38-190 lens is VERY different than a 28-140 or in the case of the v570 an even wider 23-117mm - my own personal favourite to date...
