Palm readying Treo 800w with Wi-Fi, 3.5G: source

updated 02:50 pm EDT, Mon June 11, 2007

Palm Treo 800w Tip

Palm is developing more than just its "Gandolf" budget phone, according to a contact within Sprint. The Treo 800w (not pictured) should be the handset producer's first phone with EVDO Revision A for faster mobile Internet access. It should also include Wi-Fi for connecting to local hotspots and GPS for navigation without a separate receiver. Windows Mobile 6 Professional is reported to be standard; to help cope with the overhead, RAM will be doubled to 128MB from the 700wx while 256MB of flash will provide extra space for content.

The insider also points to features that have become standard on Treos in previous generations, such as a 1.3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, and an expansion slot for media. As expected given the source, the phone is tentatively scheduled to launch through Sprint late in the year for an unknown price. A Verizon edition is unknown but is anticipated within a few months of the Sprint launch. [via Gizmodo]
