iPhone contract-only
Pascal Cagni, the head of Apple Europe, has apparently stated that the iPhone will be available via service contract in European countires, but not via pre-paid plans which are popular there. Cagni also reiterated that the iPhone will be available to European customers at "the end" of 2007. Speaking with SetteB.IT, Cagni mentioned that a carrier for Apple's iPhone has yet to be announced, and noted that the new handset is likely to butt heads with European customers who are used to pre-paid cellular plans. Apple has thus far failed to announce any plans to offer its iPhone with pre-paid service anywhere, including the U.S. [corrected]

The UK predominantly uses contract phones, and throughout Europe Pay As You Go (Pre-Pay) always gives you the rubbishest of rubbish phones so what do you expect - want a premium phone... you have to pay for it!
