updated 02:10 pm EDT, Thu June 7, 2007

HP Scanjet 7650n

HP has taken wraps off the Scanjet 7650n, a networked document flatbed scanner that boasts scan speeds of 12 pages per minute (ppm) or six images per minute (ipm). It also has the ability to securely scan and send confidential documents directly to customized destinations, including email, FTP, URL, Web browsers, printers and more. The Scanjet 7650n has an estimated street price of $1000 and is expected to be available June 2007.

The device has an integrated document server, so it can be grafted immediately into a TCP/IP-supported network. It also has the ability to scan and send profiles that can be accessed later, and a Web interface for configuring the network document server. Finally, there is SMTP and LDAP authentication for the direct file sending features.
