TDK 4.0, Komodo IDE 4.1

ActiveState has released its Tcl Dev Kit (TDK) 4.0 as well as Komodo IDE 4.1, and announced the winers of the Komodo Extensibility Challenge at RailsConf 2007. Tcl Dev Kit 4.0 is the latest revision of ActiveState's multi-platform toolkit for creating and deploying professional Tcl applications, providing essential tools for building self-contained installation-free executables. Komodo IDE 4.1 is a multi-platform, multi-language IDE for dynamic languages and Ajax technologies that features the most advanced Ruby and Rails editing as well as debugging in any development tool, according to ActiveState. Tcl Dev Kit 4.0 is available for $300 until June 22nd, while Komodo IDE is priced at $300.

Tcl Dev Kit (TDK) 4.0

TDK 4.0 introduces support for Mac OS X and Solaris x86, providing new users with sophisticated tools for bundling Tcl source code and extensions into executables, starkits or starpacks. All users benefit from preferred
interfaces with a choice of new cross-platform themed UIs or command-line access to build and configuration options.

The release also features enhanced support for TEA (Tcl Extension Archive) Package Management, with a complete suite of tools for creating, exporting, managing and using Tcl extensions. TclChecker, a batch mode code analyzer that uncovers errors in scripts before they are run, is extended in the latest release to ease the process of locating problems in new scripts, scripts from older versions of Tcl/Tk, or scripts ported from other operating systems. The update also extends compiler support to Tcl 8.5, providing obfuscation for Tcl/Tk applications built with the current Tcl release.

Komodo IDE 4.1

Komodo IDE 4.1 adds enhanced Ruby and Ruby on Rails support for Rails controllers and views, while a Ruby interactive shell is also available on its own from within debugging sessions. The editor guides developers with autocomplete and calltips for Ruby as well as RHTML, and supports the multi-language templated files common in Rails development. Komodo IDE 4.1 also introduces a Rails project template for painless project creation, generating new projects with a single click and populating them with a host of useful commands for database setup and application testing.
