iPhone spotted in wild?

The iPhone is in everyday use by engineers, according to one Silicon Valley-area blogger. A visit to a local restaurant in the southern San Francisco Bay area caught an Apple employee using the device openly, browsing the web and taking photos with the 2-megapixel webcam; the employee readily admitted to being involved with the development team, according to the writer. Whether or not the device was still in a late testing phase was uncertain. The screen was nevertheless said "crystal clear" even from two feet away and was housed in a body identical to the model shown at Macworld in January.

Public use of the phone has been reported in the past for Apple CEO Steve Jobs and other employees, but has until now remained unconfirmed through photographic evidence. Such reports appear to validate Apple's claims that the iPhone remains on track for a late June release. [via GeekNuz]

This story is so unbelievably lame. You can't even see the damned iPhone in either of the two pictures. My Nokia 6682 looks like an iPhone from the back looking at it from a distance. Lame Lame Lame!!!

That looks like a 16G drive he's using. And is that a monitor adapter port I see.

Yeesh, guys. You can do better than this.

No doubt, any journalistic credibility you had is pretty much shot now. This is so incredibly poor - It's beyond bottom of the barrel. You post some crummy images where the most clear thing that can be seen in one is a glass and too much of an obscene striped sweater, and the other shows us little more than the back of some woman's head and her partner's haircut. Wooo! Somewhere in there looks to be a bit of reflectiveness, but for all we know it could be an iPod or a spoon.

Is it so surprising anyway that there are iPhones out "in the wild"? appleisgreat was right - This is totally lame and you should be ashamed of yourself for posting it - No news is better than this.

No phone, pic, but i can see your water glass. It seems to be sweating as much as the reporter that wrote and the publishers of this non-story. I think I see Britney Spears in the background!

First, it's quiet, so I'm sure this helps get a bit of interest.

Also: whatever you might think of Esta's story, the fact is still that this is more we've seen of the iPhone outside of official conferences in several months...

I'd take anything that comes out of the shit hole known as Microsoft with a grain of salt. A millions zunes... YA RIGHT..in ur wettest dreams maybe!

Um, do you know what could happen to this guy, and MS, if he we just making stories up? Shareholders, the SEC, they'd all be suing their asses off. So, you may not want to believe it, but do you really think they care about the Zune that much to risk jailtime? I mean, come on, Ballmer in prison, just imagine it (wait, don't! You may never sleep again!).

And why do you all hate the Zune SO MUCH. It really starts being like you're one of those people who secretly wants to have one, but won't dare because his friends and family will laugh at them, so you potest and make jokes as much and loudly as possible.

And keep in mind that not everyone LOVES the iPod. If they did, there wouldn't be any other player on the market (and we all know there's ton's of them). People have different tastes, different needs. I was in Best Buy on Saturday (yes, I know, but it's OK, I showered when I got home) and some kid was trying to convince his mother he needed some little MP3 player. I think it was a Sandisk. (I don't think she was buying the whole 'need' argument, though).

Did you read the article. He says he actually saw the guy using it, and talked to him. So, its not just a couple of photos and making assumptions.

It could easily be a couple of photos and a guy making up a story.

And, how come, when Steve Jobs is seen with something that looked like an iPhone, it was "Of course, someone's got to test it!", but anyone else, and its "Ha! Made up story!". Who'd you rather have testing the device? An engineer involved in the product, or some exec who won't put it through its paces?

This is clearly one of those really typical chinese restaurants complete with the kitty with it's hand up in the air.

I think there is more interest in finding out the restaurant than finding if there's an iphone in his kung pao chicken.
