AT&T on iPhone launch

AT&T CEO Stan Sigman has described Apple's forthcoming iPhone as "the largest commercial product launch in the history of electronics" during a graduation speech at the West Texas A&M University. "This is you. AT&T and Apple will release the iPhone," Sigman said. "Since we announced this product earlier this year, over a million people have written in to express interest in being first to get one." The executive went on to announce that the first pre-released iPhone in the state of texas was given to the president of WDAMU. The president proudly held up the sleek device for all the crowed to see, and Sigman offered students a unique memory to take with them in future travels.

"I want you to be the first to see actual iPhone," AT&T's boss continued. "You don't have to remember another word I say. If someone asks you about graduation, your graduation, you can say that you got to see the iPhone."

    Dexas -> WDAMU

    Seeing a state name typo turn into an acronym typo will keep me amused for a while. Moreso, because I'm a Dexan.

    Actually, that might not be so bad. Democratic movement of Texas... Must seek Dixie chicks stamp of approval.

    Do they invited AT&T ceo to their graduation to turn the whole graduation into a big advertisement for the iPhone? Thats lame.

    Wow!

    The head of AT&T is proudly proclaiming the launch of one of their product offerings will be the biggest ever! That's incredible. You'd really think he'd blast it as an overblown media-hyped event for an over-priced service tied to out-of-date technology. But, hey, the head of AT&T can surprise you sometimes....

    Ouch. How about a vision for tomorrow?, how about collaborative efforts? I'm glad the iPhone wasn't at my graduation, i think saw someone with a walkman on, but it wasn't a focus of the speech - i hope this article isn't spot on, it makes the speaker look very "i have something you can't have." That will resent users and graduates alike.

    but the real message...

    ...of the graduation speech was, "Your University President can be bought for the price of an iPhone". Carry that with you into your bold new lives, students!

    how lame

    Are you kidding? What a total subversion of a graduation ceremony. It turned into one big iPhone commercial. That basically sucks.

    c'mon people

    This was at the *end* of the speech. It's not like he talked about the iPhone the entire time.

    Mmmmmmm...

    Kool-Aid is tasty.

    I'm excited about the iPhone (my work's sending me down to WWDC, so I'm going to see the keynote presenting iPhone and Leopard), but if I were in the audience I'd have been shouting "Shill!".
