Moto RAZR 2

Updated with official photos Motorola today introduced the RAZR2. Also known as the V9, the stainless steel clamshell is even thinner than the iconic RAZR by 2mm but stronger thanks to the use of the stronger material. The phone is also the first of its kind to include dual large screens: a 2.3-inch main display on the inside handles main features, while the outside screen is a full 2-inch LCD with dedicated music controls. Its external display is large enough to display album art and full-sized contact photos without crowding out essential information, Motorola says.

The internal performance has been upgraded with a 500MHz processor ten times faster than the original and a new, intelligent CrystalTalk system that automatically raises call volume in noisy environments. A Linux-based OS includes several upgrades as well: quicker access to contact lists, spoken voice navigation, and better HTML web browsing with Google Maps.

Music and media are stronger through a display twice as sharp as the first RAZR and a 2-megapixel camera with a multi-shot mode for snapping images in live events. Support is provided for protected Windows Media along with other music and video formats.

Motorola plans to ship versions of the RAZR 2 in GSM form with both HSDPA-based 3G Internet access (in the V9 and a 2.5G, EDGE-only model dubbed the RAZR2 V8. These should be available in Asia as of July. These should be available in Asia by July and will release in North America and elsewhere during the summer. A single CDMA version, the RAZR2 V9m, should also be available at the same time.
