Apple ranks No. 3 on college job list

Apple is ranked No. 3 behind Google and Disney on the college graduates' list of most sought after jobs, following a similar survey of MBA candidates performed earlier this month. According to the Universum Communications' 2007 Most Desirable Undergraduate Employer ranking, the top five include two government agencies, the U.S. State Dept. (No. 4) and the Peace Corps (No. 5), while Google placed No. 1 and Walt Disney ranked No. 2. The data indicated that nearly 8.5 percent of respondents put Apple among the top 5 companies at which they want to work--ahead of its rivals Microsoft (No. 9) and Sony (no. 17).

Researcher Universum Communications compiled responses from a survey of 44,064 U.S. undergraduates asking them to list their ideal employers, students favored organizations where they felt they could make a difference whether through government (the State Dept., the CIA, and the Peace Corps) or through innovation (Google, Apple, and Microsoft).

Earlier this month, Apple ranked as the sixth most desirable employer in the Fortune list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For.

A mystery to me.

I've dealt with their hr department, and they are borderline useless. In addition, they exude the opinion of, "we don't need you; everyone wants a job with us." That experience has completely disenchanted me from wanting to work there.

There's a few other big reasons not to (like ridiculous secrets kept from other parts of the company), as well, but I think too many people will work at Apple just because it is Apple.
