Beatles coming to iTunes
The entire catalog of the Beatles' music came closer to appearing on Apple's iTunes Store today, with negotiations between Apple and the legendary rock band "virtually settled." Paul McCartney -- one of the founding members of the Beatles and the world record holder for the most successful musician and composer in popular music history -- has laid plans to make all of the Beatles' tracks available on iTunes following the settlement of a trademark dispute between Apple Inc. and Apple Corps. iTunes won't likely see a significant boost to its bottom line as a result of adding the Beatles' music to its online shop, according to analysts cited by the Sacramento Business Journal, but Apple has historically profited from its market leading iPod music players while supporting sales of the portable devices with its integrated online store.

Since I define my own success, and my songs about my dog Osa are, to me, very popular (I sing them every day), I consider myself to be the record holder.

Will the Beatles catalog be offered DRM free? That would be a coup!

Significant Boost

I think iTunes Store and Apple will both see a significant boost, because they will likely offer a unique set of tracks in a special promotion. They may offer a special edition iPod as well, like they have done with U2. Such a product - with a green Apple Music logo engraved on the back, preloaded with all the Beatles' music - might add an incentive for more serious audiophiles of a slightly older generation to pick up an iPod.
If there's one thing Sony has taught Apple about the widget, it's that different sizes, shapes, and colors will keep selling forever.

This would be like saying the bacteria on Michael Phelp's skin is the world record holder for fastest swimmer. Paul McCartney rode to fame on Lennon's shoulders and has enjoyed this success in the void left by Lennon's death.

slur has it right, a special edition iPod preloaded will absolutely happen. Apple will clean up on that far more than selling songs on iTunez.

If ever a band's catalog warranted a higher fidelity digital release, this is it. At least double the fidelity of the typical 128 AAC's ought to be offered, if not full-on Apple Lossless.
