Santa Rosa MacBook Rumor

Apple could have one of its MacBook lines revised as soon as next week, according to multiple claims. Speaking to retail stores, Gizmodo's Jason Chen and other sources allege that replacement systems in at least one line will arrive as soon as next week. In at least one case, quantities of Apple's normally healthy stock were running low at resellers, pointing to an update.

"I was at a small box retailer with a good selection," says one backer of the claim. "They had not received any new MacBook Pros in over two weeks. [The store] hinted that this also meant something new was coming."

The same source had also reportedly joined in a conference call on the matter, where the one-week figure cited by the technology news site had been repeated in conversation. Apple typically refrains from previewing its future hardware strategy but is known to create brief shortages before new systems appear, such as for both of the Intel Mac mini introductions.

The company is also widely believed to have MacBook and MacBook Pro systems in the works based on Intel's freshly introduced Santa Rosa processor and chipset combination, which increases the bus speed of the Core 2 Duo to 800MHz, adds faster integrated graphics, and optionally embeds a flash memory unit for speeding up loading times.
