iTunes movies in Europe

Apple has confirmed plans to bring full-length feature films to its iTunes Store in Europe during an interview with a French newspaper this week. Apple vice president Pascal Cagni, who oversees the company's European endeavors, confirmed that the company will launch its iPhone in Europe in the fourth quarter of 2007 alongside plans to open a new Apple retail store in Paris, France in the future, according to Macworld UK. The executive also said Apple plans to have roughly 70 sales outlets inside larger retail stores open across Europe by the end of this year.

Infuriating.

This just kills me. They'll launch this in Europe, while the Canadian iTunes store has nothing. It's ridiculous they can't just sort out the licensing for us easier than breaking into a market that's in a different language. Especially when the AppleTV is selling so well here.

You may be surprised to hear that English is spoken not just in the UK but widely throughout Europe...

I wonder if they'll think of dubbing or subtitles?

In English please

I really hope they don't make the assumption that everyone in Europe wants dubbed films, and that they are also available in the films original language.

As a Canadian in Germany, though, I'm happy if we get this before Canada ;-)

Er... I think Europe is a tiny bit bigger than Canada in terms of market size, at least it was the last time I looked. Canada haven't invaded anywhere recently have they? Would it even make the news if they did? ;)

Dubbed?

Films are never dubbed here. They're subtitled, sure, but that's absolutely fine by me. Only Germany and France do that ridiculous dubbing, as far as I know. Horrible!
