Darkwind: War on Wheels launches May 4th
The developers working on Darkwind: War on Wheels -- a free racing game that runs on Mac as well as Windows systems -- have set a launch date after several months of closed testing. The driving game features racetrack as well as arena-based racing, combat leagues, ladders, and newly added out-of-town travel. Multi-player squads can conduct wilderness battles with NPCs and other players between three towns which are already live. Developers plan to re-open the game on May 4th, and is offering reduced pricing on pre-release subscriptions. While the game remains free to play, many more advanced gameplay features are only available to subscribers (system requirements were unavailable).
"With travel times running to tens of hours, on-the-road piracy and a detailed dynamics based economic simulation, trade is a viable gameplay approach that we have put great effort into making possible," wrote one developer.
Resource locations, distances, and fluctuating piracy levels tied to actual player activity all contribute to the supply and demand calculations underpinning the game's economy.

This is a turn based game, so the feeling it stops and start is normal, though it is reduced on the video.
The messages are about damages and critical hits that are experienced by vehicles and characters after the turn has been resolved on the server and sent back to the client.
Eldarkus, the game will be free to play for limited feature, what don't you give it a try in a few days?
