AT&T iPhone FAQ

Key elements of AT&T's iPhone strategy have been revealed, according to a question-and-answer sheet leaked online. The American provider is notably making exceptions in its service to accommodate an expected surge of customers triggered by the Apple device: sales agents will have permission to break normal practices to keep existing subscribers onboard for the iPhone's release, letting them buy the iPhone at a similar price to new subscribers and taking the pressure off for potential upgraders.

"If a customer is at the end of their contract or is no longer on a contract and wants to wait to upgrade to the iPhone, we will allow this," one answer reads. "[Quality Assurance] scores will not be reduced for allowing to wait to extend their contract in this scenario."

The information also reveals an apparent flexibility in AT&T service rates. Data for service rates and contracts will be available to AT&T workers "closer to the release date," AT&T says, suggesting that the company is considering special treatment for iPhone customers. Discounts on the phone itself aren't planned, the sheets read.

Customers should lastly have new options for managing their phones. Although no mention was made of specific software versus web access, any user of the AT&T version of the iPhone will have access to the MyAccount management tool for making payments and other adjustments without using their computer. The iTunes website will also have a way of managing accounts separately from AT&T pages, it says.

No information has changed regarding the official launch for the 4GB and 8GB handsets, which are still due in June at prices of $499 and $599 each. [via Engadget Mobile]

    Too late, too little

Cingular pissed me off no end. I won't be buying any iPhone ever until and unless it becomes unlocked.
