Motorola ships CableCARD-ready DVR boxes

updated 01:25 pm EDT, Fri April 20, 2007

Moto CableCARD DVRs

Motorola has begun shipping its first DVR models equipped with CableCARD slots. The DCH series (pictured) gives viewers subscribing to HDTV cable or satellite service the ability to both receive and record protected TV shows at their full quality without a separate tuner or the expense of a TiVO Series 3. Storage and other features are currently unlisted but vary depending on the exact model and TV provider.

Shipments to companies have already started, Motorola says, with some receiving their first units later this month; wider availability begins in June, while a basic analog receiver with CableCARD known as the DCH100 should appear just before a July 1st deadline that will require many providers to use the new card in their receivers.
