JVC Sophisti DD-3

JVC on Tuesday released the DD-3, a unique home theater in a box for networked home theaters. At its core is a receiver that handles audio as well as DVD playback and AM/FM radio. While typical, the DD-3 adds an Ethernet jack for streaming music, movies, and photos directly from attached computers. A USB port also provides a convient hook for flash drives and other removable storage.

What separates the DD-3 from other Sophisti systems is its speaker layout, JVC adds. A 220W 3.1-channel system is well-suited to apartment dwellers by generating a more convincing virtual surround sound through the center channel, expanding the sound field and projecting sounds behind the listener. The satellites are also only 15 inches tall and can easily fit on a tabletop instead of the floor. The DD-3 relies primarily on HDMI for output and ships today for $1,000.
