Rack-mount 2TB NAS

Iomega today announced a new rack-mount addition to its line of network attached storage (NAS) models for small and mid-sized businesses: the new Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 450r Series with print server capability. Featuring advanced performance, capacity, and energy efficiency in a 1U form factor, the new NAS device offers 1TB and 2TB models and is expected to begin shipping next month. The new Iomega NAS 450r series utilizes Microsoft Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, delivering file and print services as well as standard Windows backup and security applications. It features a hardware-based RAID (supports RAID 0/1/5), four hot-swappable 7200-RPM SATA II drives, and dual-core Intel Xeon processor technology as well as dual Gigabit Ethernet connections, ECC memory, and an Ultra 320 SCSI (VHDC1) connection for high-speed archival backup.

"The new Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 450r provides SMBs and other users with cost effective, highly optimized file-serving and enterprise-quality data protection with the added bonus of professional-level backup and disaster recovery software that can be deployed without any IT expertise," said Tom Kampfer, President and COO, Iomega Corporation. "Windows Storage Server 2003 R2, Dual-Core Xeon processor, hardware-based RAID, hot swappable SATA II drives, dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, and an industry leading backup software suite are just a few of the advanced enterprise features that make the NAS 450r a superior platform for storing, protecting and archiving critical business data."

Supported Windows services include Distributed File System (DFS-N and DFS-R), Encrypting File System (EFS), Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS), Change Journal, Integrated SRM and File Server Resource Manager (FSRM), Active Directory Service, Indexing Service, Print Management Console, and Print Serving with a five printer limit (upgrade to unlimited printers available).

The 1TB Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 450r with print storage server is expected to be available worldwide next month for $4,000. The 2TB Iomega StorCenter Pro NAS 450r with print storage server is expected to be available worldwide in the same timeframe for $5,000. The company also said a 4TB model is expected to ship later this year.

Upgrade options include Microsoft Windows Print Server support for an unlimited number of network printers and Iomega's Gold Plus service plan. All 450r series servers include a standard three-year warranty with telephone, e-mail, and web-based customer support.
