Apple patent filings

In brief: Apple has filed for four patents ranging from audio status information to network printing systems, e frontier is offering a free exporter for Adobe Poser 7, and Teacup Software began the sale of its Table Styles and CellStyles plug-ins to enhance support for Adobe InDesign CS3. MacService has introduced a new storage upgrade service for the Apple TV starting from $200, and has launched the first daily series of high resolution comedy video podcasts designed for Apple TV. A new patent filing from Apple surfaced today describing "Audio status information for a portable electronic device." The new patent will likely enable an iPod or iPhone to communicate to users when the battery is running low.

More Apple patents

Three additional Apple patent applications surfaced today, with the first two serving as divisional/continuation patents titled "Centralized queue in network printing systems" and "Graphical user interface for computers having variable size icons." The former application describes a network printing system that allows users on a network printer to make job requests and enter a spot in the job queue without transmitting the actual job data to the network. The latter application describes a user interface that allows users to adjust the size of icons based on preference or a characteristic of the objects that the icons represent.

The third patent, titled "Thermal contact arrangement," is a new filing that describes an invention designed to mitigate or reduce migration over time of a thermal interface material positioned between a chip and a heat sink.

Free Poser 7 exporter

E frontier has said it will offer a free exporter for Poser 7 that will allow users to import Poser 3D content into the 3D layer of Photoshop CS3 Extended. The company also announced that it will offer complimentary 3D content that is usable with Photoshop CS3 Extended, such as figures and props as well as packaging templates. The content has no additional software requirements and is ready for use with PS3 Extended.

Adobe acquires Teacup's table, cell styles

Teacup Software today announced that Adobe has acquired its Table Styles and CellStyles plug-ins, and has elected to integrate the plug-ins into its Adobe InDesign CS3 software. The technology enables designers and production professionals to use table and cell styles directly within Adobe InDesign CS3 for quick and consistent formatting, rather than formatting tables manually.

Apple TV upgrade, daily comedy podcasts

MacService has introduced a new Apple TV storage upgrade service that increases internal storage capacity to 160GB ($200-$300). A courier is sent directly to the home to retrieve the Apple TV, bringing it back to MacService where a certified technician installs the new drive and transfers data over from the old drive; upon completing the upgrade, the Apple TV is tested and sent back along with the old drive within 24 hours of arriving at MacService. has launched the first daily series of high resolution comedy video podcasts designed for Apple TV. The company is broadcasting five comedy programs Monday through Friday in high resolution video optimized for the new Apple TV.'s second series is already in pre-production in the U.S., Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
