Amazon leaks CS3 pricing

Ahead of the anticipated launch event this Tuesday, Amazon has leaked more pricing details and possible ship dates for each of the 54 different Adobe CS3 products (including upgrade packages, bundles and component software)--about half of which targeted to Mac users. In line with Adobe's "this spring" timeframe, most of the products will be released on April 20th, while others will not ship until later this month. Following leaks last week, two Adobe CS3 products--many of which are expected to be native Universal Binaries for maximum performance on Intel-based Macs--are listed at the US website of the world's largest internet reseller: the flagship Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Web Premium is listed at the US store for $1599, while the Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Master Collection is available for $2,499--both carry a pre-order lowest price guarantee. Amazon's Canada store, however, offers more information on pricing the other products.

The Adobe Creative Suites CS3 Master Collection, due July 1st, is available for pre-order at Amazon.ca for CDN$2,749.99 (US$2,369, "upsell") or CDN$3,439.99 (US$2,963) or CDN$1,924.99 (US$1,658, upgrade). The Master Collection will include InDesign CS3, Photoshop CS3 Extended, Illustrator CS3, Acrobat 8 Professional, Flash CS3 Professional, Dreamweaver CS3, Fireworks CS3, Contribute CS3, After Effects CS3 Professional, Premier Pro CS3, Soundbooth CS3, and Encore CS3 as well as Adobe Bridge CS3, Version Cue CS3, Device Central CS3, Stock Photos, Acrobat Connect, Dynamic Link, OnLocation CS3, and Ultra CS3.

Adobe's industry-standard graphics software Photoshop CS3 is priced at CDN$894.99 (US$771, full version) or CDN$274.99 (US$237, upgrade), while the new extended version is CDN$1,374.99 and CDN$479.99 (US$413). Photoshop CS3 Extended adds a new set of capabilities for integration of 3-D and motion graphics, image measurement and analysis.

The company's professional illustration package, Adobe Illustrator CS3, is listed for CDN$824.99 (US$710), while upgrades--from both Freehand and previous versions--are CDN$274.99, the same price as Photoshop CS3 upgrades.

The new version of its professional layout application, InDesign CS3, is priced at CDN$959.99 (US$827) for the full version and CDN$274.99 for the upgrade from the previous version or PageMaker.

The site also lists Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Web Standard, also due on April 20th, for CDN$1374.99 or CA$1099 ("upsell") with upgrades priced at CDN$549.99 (US$473). The "Standard" Web edition will include Flash CS3 Professional, Dreamweaver CS3, Fireworks CS3, and Contribute CS3, while "Premium" Web will add Photoshop CS3 Extended, Illustrator CS3, and Acrobat 8 Professional. Adobe's Creative Suite CS3 Web Premium is also expected to ship on April 20th for CDN$2,199.99 (US$1,895) or CDN$1,924.99 ("upsell") CDN$684.99 (US$590) for an upgrade.

Adobe Flash Pro CS3, also due on April 20th, is priced at CDN$959.99 (US$827), while upgrades to Adobe Flash Pro CS3 are priced at CDN$274.99 (US$237).

Adobe Fireworks CS3 is CDN$409.99 (US$353) with upgrades priced at CDN$204.99 (US$177).

Adobe Contribute CS3, due also on April 20th, is priced at CDN$204.99 (US$177) and CDN$109.99 (US$95) for upgrades, while Adobe Dreamweaver CS3 is CDN$549.99 (US$474) or CDN$274.99 (US$241).

Man, they are so full of themselves. Just give me a non-sucky version of Illustrator, and Photoshop and Indesign, and I'll be on my way. Oh, and could we possibly have the programs not set to crash every hour, as CS2 had consistently done?

Wow - this stuff is way overpriced.

Illustrator for $700?! Sure, it's a powerful app, but this is ridiculous.

No wonder apps like LineForm are so popular with price tags like this.

Wow-I love the packaging:it's lively and eye catching compared to CS2.

I noticed that there's no Flash Standard-only a pro version offered this time around.

Amazon probably might remove the pages.

Contribute CS3-would it be Contribute 5 or the current 4.0 redone as Universal Binary?

If you're a designer and you think that packaging is good, there is something really wrong with you. Hopefully, you're not a designer. I see the Flash interface still sucks pretty bad too. I would have thought that they would make all the apps look like the Adobe suite, but the Macromedia apps still look like Macromedia apps. What gives? Adobe has had how long now to update these things? Man, that packaging really reminds me of 1994 Photoshop plugin, Kai's Power Tools. What's up with that?

price hike

Well, now that Macromedia is out of the way, and Mac users are champing at the bit... price hike!

This seems like an awful stiff increase in pricing. Oddly, I don't see a price for the CS3 "Design Standard" package, the one that is most like CS2, and the one that will probably sell the best.

Here's hoping the educational prices won't jump too much...

Two questions ...

03/26, 02:01pm reply

1) Are all, or only some of these upgrades Universal? I'm still doing fine on my dual-G4, but I'm fine with the versions of Adobe apps I have now ... really no need to upgrade them except as ALL Universal apps for when I eventually get a new Intel Mac.

2) Does anyone know if GoLive is officially kaput? Not to debate the merits of either here, but I was going to start rebuilding some of my web sites in the next couple months. If GoLive is officially a dead-end now, I'll switch to DreamWeaver before I start.

Thanks.
