iTunes brings back the original Star Trek

Star Trek: The Original Series has returned to Apple's iTunes store after quietly disappearing in February of this year. The first season of the series is available alongside a remastered version of the classic Sci-Fi TV show, with both versions priced at $56.99 each. The remastered edition of Star Trek: The Original Series features "all-new digital effects that hold close to the spirit of the original," according to iTunes, available in their full-length original format without the cuts of syndicated television. "The vivid remastered versions make Star Trek new again, without compromising what made the show a pioneer of modern, continuing-character science fiction."

Hate to be a downer but the remastered episodes are a crock. Not only are the new digital effects not impressive enough to have been worth doing (and subsequently a slap in the face to the people who worked hard to create what were, at the time, state of the art effects - yes, kids, once upon a time special effects were created by artists and craftsmen with cameras, not wieners sitting in a cubical drinking RedBull and eating microwave popcorn), but bits of the episodes have been edited out here and there, changing the timing and the whole feel of some of them. No thanks.

"Come now and see the NEW Mona Lisa! We took the original and restored it to its former beauty! Notice the brighter colors, sharper contrast, blah blah...

The special effects are nice, but like with Star Wars the inserted effects look VERY out of place - for a drastic analogy imagine color scenes inserted into a black and white film.

Dont get me wrong, I like Star Trek and think the new effects are well done but they are not for me!
