Apple TV arrives early
Dozens of readers on Thursday began receiving their Apple TV set-top box, one day ahead of estimated delivery dates by FedEx. Expected at Apple's retail stores this weekend and in Best Buy stores next Tuesday, the device has received favorable reviews by Walt Mossberg (and PC Magazine), although many note that the devices does have limitations and may not be everyone. At least one company gave all of its employees an Apple TV, following an "exceptionally great" financial quarter for Axosoft and the release of major new version of OnTime for advanced defect, feature and incident management. While TechRestore today posted dissection photos and began posting manuals and tech support docs, we have a some photos of the unboxing.

Thanks to Andy.

tripod?

shouldn't need a tripod to shoot a stationary object 10 feet in front of you. jeebus. was there an earthquake at the time?
anyway, got my AppleTV yesterday. OOB experience was great. sync'ing the first time takes awhile, especially if you have tons of hi-res pics or video.
overall, it is very cool and it will definitely change how we use our living room. highly recommended, unless you already have a better solution in place using WMCE or Mac Mini, etc.
on a hi-def screen, the images are stunning. forget the Blu-ray/HD-DVD battle for now. AppleTV can tide me over until the dust settles.

5.1 Sound
03/23, 05:59pm reply
I am shocked . People are saying that the Apple TV does not do 5.1 sound.
What on earth is Apple thinking ... that we would go to all the trouble of streaming movies to our lounge room and only with c*** sound. In this day and age of home theatre thats a deal breaked for me.
No 5.1 sound NO Apple TV h*** I have 7.1 sound in my lounge room so evenb 5.1 sound is outdated

no reason the hardware can't do it, has optical and RCA outs. i think it's more of a function of the files that Apple is selling at this point (H.264 encoded in stereo). i would think in the future, after the video download thing takes off, you'll see broader support with their codec container (quicktime). i hope so at least.
