Samsung Q1 Ultra Official

Samsung has at last officially announced the Q1 Ultra, its sequel to today's Q1 ultra-mobile PC. The Ultra serves primarily as a response to feedback on the original with improved controls and performance. A new keyboard lets a user type without touching the screen; the mouse pointer has also been greatly improved and serves as a joystick in games, according to Samsung. A 1.3-megapixel camera at the back enables photography, while a VGA camera at the front allows for video calls over a newly-added HSDPA broadband Internet link.

More details and a larger shot follow after the break.

Numerous subtler elements have been upgraded, the company notes: a sharper 1024x600 display allows viewing more at once, while its built-in sound has changed from a mono 2-watt speaker to a stereo 3-watt system. Samsung hopes to deliver the Q1 Ultra with 1GB of RAM and a 60GB hard drive in roughly the same $1,300 to $2,000 price window as today's Q1, though whether or not the Ultra will ship to the US without modifications is unknown.

It looks like something RIM would do...

It kinda looks like an oversize BlackBerry or maybe one of the earlier BB pagers. If they're going up against the iPad with something like this, they're in big trouble. Geeks might love this contraption, but consumers wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole. It may be powerful, but it looks bulky and heavy. Basically, a notebook computer in tablet form.
