Miglia responds to losing EyeTV

Miglia on Elgato

Following yesterday's announcement by Elgato Systems that it would no longer provide its EyeTV software to Miglia Technology, the company has responded with a brief statement: "The licence agreement between Miglia and the software supplier for EyeTV has not been renewed, Miglia will no longer ship products that contain this application in its TV solutions," said Miglia CEO Simon Ellson. "Customers that use this application with their Miglia TV product should have no concerns about ongoing support or upgrades, for updated information, please check the support section of our site." Regarding the future of Miglia products, Ellson suggests that development on its own products is continuing, and that a replacement for EyeTV will be discovered. "From time to time we have chosen to bundle other manufacturers software with our own hardware where it has been appropriate, this policy will continue."

    might make eyetv better..

So far, Elgato's EyeTV software has been all by itself in the market, and good though it is, would benefit from competition.

Hopefully Miglia (or some other supplier) will provide that competition.

I'm hoping that EyeTV software (or its replacement for Miglia) will play the BBC HD stream on UK FreeView. At the moment, EyeTV can record it, but not show it, and I have to use VLC to play the stored HD file.

    What's wrong with Alchemy

Miglia's Alchemy software that came standard with my Alchemy card rocks. AMAZINGLY better quality than some hokey USB EyeTV solution. They should've just kept developing that an just worked on improving the DVR portion (which I admit, is chunkblower). If you ever saw an EyeTV television window side by side with an AlchemyTV window, you would kick EyeTV to the curb.

    Sadly...

When I got my Mac Pro, my Alchemy TV card went back in the box and is now collecting dust. I wish Miglia would make a card for the Mac Pro...

    alchemytv

Miglia has never really built anything for this product. They have only made very minor updates to the base sw since acquiring it from Meilenstein three years ago. Also, as far as the quality, the difference in quality is because most EyeTV analog products encode the source before displaying it. The Alchemy TV product just passes through the uncompressed signal to display. While this image is "better", its not necessarily because the tuner on the EyeTV products is any worse. I have three EyeTV units and an AlchemyTV DVR (formerly Televio), so I would love it if Miglia were to pick up development of Alchemy again and release something that is a truly worthy product.
