Sony tackles podcasting with new voice recorders

Sony 2007 Voice Recorders

Sony bolstered its many releases today with new additions to its Digital Voice Recorder line. The SX57 (pictured) is designed for those who expect to capture voice at the same level as a good stereo recording, with a triple microphone array and a special STHQ (stereo high-quality) mode for musicians and other professionals. Its system is voice-triggered and is smart enough to stop recording during longer pauses to save space, Sony says. The SX57 ships in the Spring with 256MB of memory for $200 and will be followed by the SX57DR9, a $250 version with a cradle and Dragon NaturallySpeaking 9 for automatically transcribing interviews.

More after the break.

Beyond these, Sony further introduced four models for less demanding sound clips. The P520 and P530F (photos unavailable) drop stereo recording but still hold 256MB of flash for recording as much as 130 hours of sound in long-play mode: the P530F adds an FM tuner with 25 presets for listening to music. Both models are due in the Spring at respective prices of $70 and $80.

At the starter level are the B500 and B510F, AAA battery-powered models with the same 256MB of flash and a 250-milliwatt speaker for listening to recordings without headphones or a PC. The basic B500 ships in Spring for $50 in tandem with the FM-equipped B510F, which will sell for $60.
