Upgrading previous-gen MacBook to 802.11n
French-based Mac site MacBidouille has posted a step-by-step tutorial on upgrading the networking in a first-generation MacBook. Using a standalone Mac Pro wireless networking card, available from the Apple Store, the report shows how to replace the older hardware in a Core Duo-based MacBook with faster 802.11n networking.
Apple began shipping 802.11n-capable Macs last year and began shipping its 802.11n AirPort Extreme station (photos, benchmarks, reviews) earlier this month along with its 802.11n enabler software to enable the functionality. The report notes that while current-generation MacBooks have three antennas to support faster 802.11n networking as well as the previous generation of MacBooks, that the Mac Pro (and its networking card) only use two.
