In brief: CS Odessa today launched its first ConceptDraw Lab project combining a corporate blog, a new products marketplace, and a discussion forum. The company is planning periodic releases of freeware utilities, with the first free download coming in the form of a dashboard widget; iCalGTD widget partially implements the "Getting Things Done" time management system to help users put ideas, tasks, and other assorted pieces of information into a selected iCal calendar to serve as an inbox.... PhotoshopCAFE has announced its 7th annual design challenge offering the largest prize pool to date, offering more than $12,000 worth of prizes from sponsors such as Adobe, Wacom, and Logitech. The contest is designed to echo a real-world design challenge, requiring participants with creating a billboard ad for Photoshop in the past or future.... MacSpeech has released a new ScriptPak for Intuit's TurboTax 2006 software ($20) enabling users to do almost anything in TurboTax normally possible using the keyboard or menu shortcuts.
BMW 7-Series to integrate with iPhone?
A recent article suggests that auto manufacturer BMW will offer integrated iPhone support in its upcoming 7-Series flagship model, citing a "highly-placed source" within BMW. One blogger says he wouldn't be surprised if the rumor proves true, but recommends waiting to purchase such a unit until the bugs are worked out first.
Alpine preps Apple-influenced car head unit
Alpine has unveiled the iDA-X001 in-car head receiver with a custom design influenced by Apple Inc. The head unit can control music on a fifth-generation iPod attached via a USB cable, and incorporates a 2.2-inch LCD screen that replicates the iPod's menus and displays with complex track information -- including album art.
Gear4 unveils stealth iPod speaker dock
Gear4 today unveiled the HouseParty III, a 30-watt speaker system designed to be as unobtrusive as possible by blending in with its environment. The device features a retractable dock that stows away when not connected to an iPod, and includes an LCD screen with integrated FM radio hidden behind the speaker grille to avoid standing out.
