IBM CPU power to double

In brief: IBM is planning to double its processor power in 2008, using a secret design that is apparently a faster form of embedded dynamic random access memory (eDRAM). The new chip will likely occupy one-third of the space commonly used by static random access memory (SRAM).... Warner CEO Edgar Bronfman at the 3GSM phone expo in Barcelona said the processes of purchasing and downloading music from a cellular phone borders on the excruciating. The executive noted that while many cellular phones in use today can play music and enable users to purchase those tracks directly from an online store, only about 8.5 percent of customers actually do so.

A recent study of more than 1.5 million computer users revealed that only 0.22 percent of respondents had Microsoft's Zune software installed, which is necessary to sync and purchase songs for the accompanying device. duh

Seriously. Most people don't even enter contacts either, at best the majority store a caller and then assign a name. It's great that all this technology is out there, especially for the uber geek. Why is iPod+iTunes such a success? Hmm. If you're going to produce a product for the masses, you need to engineer your product for them. When it comes to tech, the old "build it and they will come" idea just doesn't work. The trick is to have a simple and logical UI up front, yet build it with powerful features for advanced users, that doesn't be mean make it complicated.

    Music from your phone

Why do so few people buy music on their phone?

Simple answer: DRM Longer Answer: Anything that I buy on my phone I can only use on my phone, I get a new phone, I have to buy it all again. When I found this out, I decided to never buy music on my phone. With iTunes you can at least get rid of the DRM, albeit via a CD.
