Mattel Digital Toys 2007

Mattel has launched its presence at New York's International Toy Fair by introducing a series of new digital toys linked to either computers or music players. A highlight of the announcements was the Digital Arts and Crafts Studio (pictured). Made to at once resemble an adult's tablet input and an easel, the Studio is intended as a simple painting tool that uses real-world painting analogies to encourage children to draw. Touching the pen on symbolic points changes the brush type, color, and modes. Bundled software will also help in creating real-world projects such as coloring pages and stationery, Mattel adds.

More toys and a gallery after the jump.

Also planned for this year is the Chat Divas Barbie Doll, a toy that accepts a connection from an iPod or other music players to make the figurine bob and lip-sync to songs; the Funkeys, a set of action figures that unlock new areas in a game world when attached to a computer; the Easy Link Internet Launchpad, a USB add-on that takes kids directly to game websites by plugging in a character; and the I Can Play Guitar, a self-contained video game system in the vein of Guitar Hero that asks kids to match buttons on the guitar in time with the music.

All the toys should be available later this year but haven't received official pricing.
