MCE Technologies today began shipping an 18X DVD±R/RW + DL (Dual/Double Layer) internal SuperDrive upgrade for Apple's professional Mac Pro and Power Mac lines. The MCE 18X DVD±R/RW + DL drive records at up to 18X on standard DVD±R media and up to 10X on standard DVD±R (DL) Dual/Double Layer media. The drive is compatible with iDVD, iTunes, DVD Studio Pro and Finder Burning under Mac OS X. The MCE 18X DVD±R/RW + DL SuperDrive internal upgrade for the Apple Mac Pro and Power Mac is priced at $60 and is available immediately. "There is no higher performance DVD storage solution on both single and double/dual layer media for the Apple Mac Pro and Power Mac available on the market than our 18X SuperDrive upgrade," stated Arnold Ramirez, president of MCE. The MCE 18X DVD±R/RW internal SuperDrive upgrade for Mac Pro and Power Mac writes at up to 18X speed (24.75MB/sec) to specific 16X rated 4.7GB DVD-R and DVD+R media, at up to 10X speed (13.75MB/sec) to DVD+R (DL) Double Layer media and DVD-R (DL) Dual Layer media, and at up to 6X and 8X to 4.7GB DVD-RW and DVD+RW, respectively.
In addition, it writes to standard 650MB (74 minute) and 700MB (80 minute) CD-R media at up to up to 40X speed, writes to standard CD-RW media at up to 32X speed, reads DVD-RAM discs at up to 5X speeds, reads DVD-ROM discs at up to up to 16X speed, and reads standard CD-R and CD-ROM discs at up to 40X speed.
The MCE 18X DVD±R/RW + DL internal SuperDrive requires a Mac Pro or Power Mac (G3, G4 or G5) running Mac OS X and is compatible with iTunes and Finder Burning. It is also compatible with iDVD and DVD Studio Pro on systems running Mac OS 10.2 or later.
