Briefly: MacBU birthday; Apple on Vista

updated 06:00 pm EST, Wed February 7, 2007

MacBU birthday, anti-Vista

In brief: Microsoft's Mac Business Unit (MacBU) celebrated its 10th anniversary on February 6th, acknowledging the group's formation in 1997. A few Mac BU members decided to arrive at the office early to set up giant pixelated designs -- which were created in Excel -- in the windows made entirely from sticky notes to commemorate the occasion.... Apple is planning to heat up its anti-Vista campaign at its international retail stores later this week by issuing new store displays and employee t-shirts that softly mock Vista as a weak attempt at a modern operating system. The company also challenged its employees to learn about and tout the advantages of Macs over computers running Windows Vista in a multi-page training manual.

Taiwan-based Matsunichi has previewed its iPF7 iPod video dock, offering a completely self-contained music and video system for Apple's portable player. The dock is compatible with any fourth-generation or later dockable iPod to play music, photos, or video through a 7-inch display and speakers.

    Vista mocking

Is Apple really that sad? Just let it go. Only computer tech savvy consumers know what the h*** Apple are talking about. For the mums and daddy's I doubt it. Especially if you showed them the new mac ad about pc, the security guy and mac. I bet they would be like "What does that mean?"

It sounds to me like an inferiority complex, from apple side. And I can't see why, they do make impressive products.

You guys are right, seeing as how vista is a shameless copy of Mac OS X they shouldn't do any of that. They should be civil like Microsoft and just take them to court right? Or is it your point that Apple has no right to market it's product in a comparison to it's competitor who apparently has no sense of ethics in the first place?

Either way you guys are brainless.

    You expect...

..intelligence messages from the likes of devilla and his friend? C'mon, be serious. I'm just counting for testudo to post one of his usual Apple bashings in this thread -- You're right, devilla -- LET IT GO!, but it would apply to yourself.

    Who's inferior?

Gates claims from the Levy interview: (1) "security guys break the Mac every single day. Every single day, they come out with a total exploit, your machine can be taken over totally." (2) claims first introduction of parental controls. (3) nonsense about the file, edit and view menus.

So how does Apple counter this FUD? With a campaign that promises some tongue-in-cheek humor and a little sarcasm. Inferiority complex? I don't think so. It is pushing back. Most of the media just spread Gates' FUD as if it were the gospel. I for one am happy Apple will kick up the dust, grab some attention and shine some light into the dark corners of Redmond.

    Re: Vista mocking

My point was that Apple makes impressive and innovative products that sell well, hence there is no need to attack other companies. And it is one thing poking fun at microsoft, and another thing making it the "official company line". This Mac OS X versus vista thing is getting rather old, so I wont even comment on stupid comments on both operating systems. Finally, Bill Gates said some untrue things about mac os security, but there is no need to fall to his level.

So tony_se1 are you saying that Apple should be targetting Linux?

MS are the dominant player in the OS market and Apple want some of that pie, so its only natural that they target MS. Its sensible marketing.

I agree with you coldfusion, I never said that apple should not be targeting Microsoft. However targeting Microsoft with innovative products that will outsell their rivals is one thing, whereas targeting Microsoft with constant stupid (in my opinion) mockeries is another. It was "fun" in the beginning but its getting old now.
