Honolulu store opening

In brief: Apple has scheduled to hold the grand opening of its retail store in Honolulu, Hawaii on Saturday, February 10th at 9:00 a.m. HST. The Cupertino-based company is also planning to open its latest UK-based store in WestQuay of Southampton at the same time on the same day, and the first 1,000 visitors will receive a free Apple T-Shirt.... One Mac blogger has detailed the similarities as well as the differences between OmniWeb and Apple's Safari Web browser with the Saft Safari extension. Both browser setups run equally well but encounter memory issues after prolonged browsing, and both offer features that set each apart from the other.... Portland Oregon's MacForce is hand-delivering iPods purchased from their store this Valentine's Day across Portland for free, and is serenading customers with music or a love poem as deliveries are made. The company is also offering complementary gift wrapping alongside a heart-shaped cookie with each delivery.

    Whatever...

... the Safari/OmniWeb site doesn't support the US yet.

    WTF?

How did MacNN get a hold of this story? Didn't they check it before posting the story?

    Another Honolulu store?

I'll admit I've only been to Honolulu once, but why is Apple building a second store only 5 miles (according to Google Map's directions) from their Ala Moana store? It doesn't look to be that much closer to the Univ. of Hawaii campus... Maybe it's just that much easier to get to for the locals? (My wife allowed me to visit the Ala Moana store during our honeymoon. :) )

    kahala store

It doesn't really make sense but on Oahu, the perception of distances can be weird (like 20 miles is considered far). So I also think it is more for local residents else they would have looked at building a flagship type store right in Waikiki (considering there is a new shopping complex where the new Trump Tower is being built).

Kahala Mall (where the new Apple Store will be) is located in an affluent neighborhood but the mall traffic isn't as heavy as Ala Moana or Pearlridge. Of course, the Ala Moana store is pretty small (this compared to Apple Stores I've went to on the mainland and in Japan) and this second store is supposed to be much larger.

If anything, residents will split between the two locations and maybe only the visitor who is an Apple fan will check out the Kahala location (most tourists tend to only go to Ala Moana as opposed to the other shopping malls since most of the other malls are blah).
