Apple's 'Vista Security' ad takes swipe at MS

Apple's new Get a Mac ad

Apple has released yet another TV ad spot, following the much heralded release of Windows Vista last week: the Cupertino-based company has posted a new "Get a Mac" ad focused on Windows Vista's security features which include an "overly" intrusive security system that requires users to "cancel" or "allow" virtually all user actions in an effort to make the PC secure. In addition, the company posted seven reasons why users should choose a Mac rather than upgrading to Windows Vista: "Thinking about upgrading to Vista? Even more reasons to get a Mac," which include "No upgrade nightmares," the ability to run Windows, "It's simpler," "Know iTunes," and "Macs run Office." Despite Microsoft's stated focus on security, a new new Excel zero-day attack surfaced last week that exploits yet another vulnerability in Microsoft Office (including Mac Office 2004); ironically, the company recently slammed Mac OS X security.

This is the least funny of the campaign and most critical of Windows. It is really well done and you can see the frustration on "PC's" face when he has to constantly address the suited character representing the new Vista security feature. Good work Apple

seriously - is that M$' answer to making Vista more secure? Constantly asking the user to cancel or allow, thereby shifting the blame onto the user if something does infect their computer?

f****** retarded.

While I always like these ads, never have a laughed so much at one.

Vista: "You're coming to a sad realization, Cancel or allow?"

PC: "Allow"

Hands down the FUNNIEST ad in this series so far! I laughed out loud and still have a stupid smile on my face. Haha! And, though I've not used Vista yet, my understanding from those who have say it's actually pretty darn accurate too!

Good job Apple. LMAO!!

It is true?

I haven't used Vista, but I take it that this is the way they handle security, with lots of interruptions/dialog boxes?

One thing that has always annoyed me about Windows is all the little pop-up balloons. For instance, when I connect to a wireless network on my Mac, the wireless icon in the menu just changes from gray to black bars, and I keep on working. With Windows XP, a balloon pops up congratulating me on connecting to the network -- a balloon that I then have to dismiss.

I'm sure there's someway to get rid of all these distractions, but the point is, they are distractions, and they are the default behavior of Windows. My overall reaction, whenever I'm using Windowis, "Hey, get out of my way, I just want to work!". On the Mac, the OS really does step out of the way to let me do my work.

I wonder when people in business will realize this. Probably when they start using Macs, I suppose...
