updated 12:10 pm EST, Fri February 2, 2007

Apple reputation jumps 6%

Apple's brand reputation jumped 6 percent in 2006 over the previous year to place the company as the 22nd most reputable firm, according the Annual RQ study by Harris Interactive. The study, which aims to provide industry watchers with an established approach for measuring corporate reputation, placed Dell just below Apple at no. 23 on the list of most reputable companies despite promises from the PC-maker's CEO to best Apple and run the company out of business. Microsoft jumped seven places in 2006 to seize the no. 1 spot, trailed by Google in fourth place. Apple beat out IBM and Hewlett-Packard which took the no. 26 and no. 28 spots, respectively, and Sony placed no. 8 ahead of Disney at no. 13.

    MS had help...

from Bill Gates. I guess if you dump TONS of money into charity it doesn't matter how evil your company is, people will fall in love.

    consider the source

this should be called 'recognition' not reputation.

if you look at the WHOLE report instead of the c*** they trot out, MS places at the top AND the bottom of the surveys for reputation. Apple doesn't fall down at the bottom. Sorry, Bill.

    Generougs Gates??

Bill's "charity" went to India, where Windows code is generated. In return, India, through university programs, returns the favour with "free" Windows code.

India gets a commitment from MS and Billy-Boy get a HUGE tax cut.

    Now that's good marketing

There you have it. MS should have a terrible reputation because of its past and current business practices, yet the people surveyed obviously did not consider corporate ethics in rating MS number one. It must be that marketing department in Redmond. Then again quite a few people also voted for George W Bush even after the real reasons for invading Iraq were clear AND he was botching the job. I just don't understand this. Is it that ethics just don't matter anymore? And that if a lie is told often enough, it is taken as truth?
