Adium X 1.0 released
[digg it]
The Adium team has released Adium X 1.0, bringing major AIM, ICQ, and .Mac improvements to the free open-source instant messaging application for Mac OS X. Adium enables users to connect to any number of messaging accounts on any combination of supported messaging services to chat with others. Adium X 1.0 includes working file transfers, faster sign-ons, and a global user profile as well as buddy icon settings. The latest revision allows users to disable accounts when not in use, and friends can sign on from another user's Adium client without saving their information. The update adds an Xtras manager to better handle browsing as well as removing Xtras, and boasts significant improvements to privacy settings. iTunes integration is "much faster," according to the Adium team, updating as soon as the song changes. The latest revision also includes a redesigned chat transcript (log) viewer, and runs natively on Intel-based Macs as a Universal Binary. Adium X 1.0 requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later.

Adium Tabs

The biggest reason I used Adium was tabbed chats - which I was able to get in iChat with Chax. The next best feature was the chat history in the chat window, which is great when you have to close the chat application. I am glad they went to 1.0 finally, but it looks like iChat 4 may add many features.

Holy carp I can't believe it! Only 3+ years in the making. Finally. Maybe now I will give it another shot. If only Proteus did file transfers, I'd just stick with that.

still no video

I like both Proteus and Adium, but especially I like Adium's customizability. But neither have video, nor does msn messenger for mac. Yahoo messenger for mac has video.... Is it that difficult to add video capability?

Video chat is hard

mymacluvsme: Yes. Video chat is very hard to implement. See our blog post about it: http://www.adiumx.com/blog/2006/06/setting-expectations-voice-and-video.php

I switched over a year ago to Adium X...simple and very clean interface...tabs definitely was a great feature...
as for support for video, I use aMSN if I really want to video chat with friends and their PC version of MSN...but most of them have started to switch to Macs so we use iChat now
keep up the great work Peter

Can't log on to AIM now??

Just upgraded, and it won't let me on to AIM with any of my existing screen names. No, I didn't forget the passwords to ALL of them.
