Charismac today released Version 3.0 of its Storage Area Networking (SAN) software: FibreShare v3.0 now works with Apple's Intel-based Macs, delivering FibreShare volume management software for multiple SAN users and the ability to share volumes between Intel- and PowerPC-based Macs. FibreShare v3.0. The company claims that it is the first to release Intel-native SAN Software for the Professional Audio, Professional Video and Motion Picture industries. The software enables users with video applications such as Apple's Final Cut Pro, Digidesigns' ProTools and Media 100 work with fibre channel storage volumes as if they were directly attached to the client's computer--without affecting host performance. FibreShare works with hardware from IBM, Vixel, HP, StorageTek, EMC, Brocade, Hitachi Data Systems, McData and many others.
"We wanted to provide customers with a way to bring in one or two seats of the Intel native FibreShare v3.0 OS X software into their existing FibreShare SAN network if necessary. Customers do not need to feel the burden of upgrading their entire audio or video equipment to Intel Native OS X as an all or nothing proposition," Furgeson added.
FibreShare for Mac OS X comes complete with Intel-native tools necessary for installation including Charismac RAID utilities for Intel-based Macs, which allow users to set up a SAN using single disk drives or multi-disk arrays including Hardware RAID Controllers. FibreShare v3.0 also comes with a comprehensive benchmarking tool in order to test storage devices on the SAN.
FibreShare for Mac OS X carries a suggested retail price of $1250 per network seat. Charismac offers quantity discounts as well as competitive upgrades from other SAN software packages.
