Apple Super Bowl event

Apple has scheduled to hold a special announcement during a Super Bowl commercial on February 4th, which one report claims could signal the debut of the Beatles' music catalog on the iTunes Music Store. The rumored deal between Apple Inc. and Apple Corps. to bring the legendary rock music to the digital realm for the first time is backed by "sources with knowledge of the project," according to the Toronto Sun, claiming that remastered tracks from the band's back catalog could end up on the iTunes Music Store as soon as next month. The report also mentions a three-month deal between the two companies to offer the Beatles' music exclusively via iTunes, reinforcing another report that surfaced earlier this week.

    agreed

Talk about a yawn, and a waste of a Superbowl spot. The worst thing you can do it produce a snoozer of a commercial during the game. "Oh this one sucks. I hope they show the one with the drunk monkey eating cheese again!"

I mean, is there really a huge market out there for people who 1) like the Beatles and 2) haven't already purchased the CDs?

    good move...

spend a ton of cash on a spot to promote beatles music everyone already has (unless they plan on selling super-duper-ultra rare-never before heard tracks - are there even any left!?)

i guess there may be 1 or 2 happy people.

    don't get it?

This is obviously above your heads. Now, I'm not a big Beatles for or even a fan of iTunes. I prefer CD's. But, this would actually be pretty huge for Apple and the Beatles. Why do you think they keep releasing Beatles boxed sets? Because they still sell. There will always be a new generation of Beatles fans out there, and the new one like digital downloads.

Just because YOU don't like something, doesn't mean there aren't a LOT of other people salivating over this possible opportunity.

    You people...

... are Drunk. Apple signing an exclusive deal to distribute The Beatles' music online would be HUGE. Think of all those aging baby boomers who are learning iPods. Think of all those kids who hear the well-sold Beatles catalog in advertisements. Think of real music fans. They'll want this well.

    Well . . .

You might not care about the Beatles, but lots of people do. Moreover, Apple and the Beatles are feuding. This might be part of a larger settlement between the two entities. That would be in Apple's best interest.

RE: don't get it? Um yeah

Well actually this is a small nitch spot really i dought that would be it though... Personally I think its a spot for iphone or an ipod spot with a hook from the beatles which would shine as a bonus to the ipod ad... stealthy but well done... just my 2¢

wait a second... first, lets assume that Apple is making around 5 cents a track sold.. lets say iTunes sells 10 million beatles tracks in a year. That equals $500,000 profit.

Now lets state a simple fact. Ads for the super bowl run over 2 million. (2.4 according to CNN) now i'm no math whiz, but is a beatles announcement really the way to spend $2 million?? Wont they get enough press from it as is??

And are sports fans really the target audience of said music?? doubtful...
