BitJazz updates SheerVideo

BitJazz has announced a new version of SheerVideo, its proprietary video codec that will soon be available in Intel and Univesal Binary versions. SheerVideo says its lossless format, which is aimed at professionals, is half the size of conventional formats and twice as fast. The codec is also said to permit "non-destructive" two-way color conversion between RGB and Y'CbCr, which normally results in lost color data as a result of the separate palettes. The Intel and Universal Binary versions of SheerVideo Pro are due to ship by the end of January, and will cost between $150 and $190. The SheerVideo Reader player is available for free.
