MacBook mod, iPhone poster

In brief: One avid MacBook owner seeking an alternative to the limited availability of colors offered by Apple has applied Carbon Graphix -- a vinyl sticker material that looks like real carbon fiber -- to the outside of his notebook.... Another Mac user has posted an image that appears to depict the rumored iPhone with iSync, Address Book, iCal, Mail, and Bluetooth capabilities.... MOTU has released public beta hardware drivers for Windows Vista, allowing owners of its FireWire, PCI, and USB hardware interface products to use the devices with Windows Vista when it ships to the general public.... Intelligent Assistance today released the third of its collections of Pro Apps Tips containing 101 tips for Apple's Final Cut Pro Studio applications originally published in the Pro Apps Hub software.... One Mac user has started the notMac challenge to encourage the development of an easy-to-use replacement for Apple's docMac service, and will match the first $10,000 in contributions.... Scriptingmatters.com today announced that the 10th AppleScript Pro Sessions are to be held in Denver, Colorado for the first time from June 11-15th, 2007 drawing attendees from around the world.

    iPhone

isn't that the same iPhone "picture" that we got like years ago? The system preferences icon on the phone's dock looks like its 10.3 or 10.2. Looks like someone is recycling news.

    iPhone is iPhoney

Hey... the dead giveaway is that the text in that ad is the old-style ad text used up until 3 years or so ago, when Apple changed to the Lucida Grande typeface.

Must be a sloooooowwww news day... ;-)

    Old.

That ad comes from a UK Mac publication called "The Mac Book: Your essential guide to iPod, iTunes & iLife '06". At the top of the page, which is conveniently cropped out, it says "What if Apple made..."

At the bottom of the page it says: "The iPhone, iControl, Bluetooth iPods and some other stuff don't exist, we made them up. But we want them. Bad. The Web address www.iphone.org does exist, though, and it takes you to the Apple site, so fingers crossed!"

    Bad Ergonimics too

I don't for a moment (I hope) believe Apple would release a phone with the keys not in a straight row, wrapping them around a scroll wheel at the inconvenience of the phone's dialers.

    Myriad?

The new typeface is Myriad. But yes MacNN should take this erroneous c*** down. Its bad journalism.

    and in small print..

I don't know if any of you were able to make out what it says on the bottom of the poster, but from what i can make out it goes something like "Apple makes great computers. Sony Erickson makes great mobile phones - phones that have set the standard for hassle-free syncing with your Mac." So, even If it weren't from The Mac Books "what if Apple made" section, it would still just be a mock up. Ha, Apple and Sony partnering, gimme a break..

    Say Hello to iPhone

I suspect the iPhone poster is a fake. Apple rarely uses the definite article with these posters. 'Say Hello to *the* iPhone' just doesn't sound right.

And the desktop pic on the phone. Is that the Tiger one? I dont use the default one ever so I dont see it much, but I though the intense line one was tiger and Panther had a more subtle one.

    I knew it was SE!

I knew it was an SE phone. It looks too much like a T6xx-series phone for it to be anything else. The T610/T616 looks like the basis for it, and some very low-skill Photoshopping looks to be used.
