Jaguar launches first Internet-based car tracking

updated 01:45 pm EST, Mon November 20, 2006

JaguarWatch Car Tracking

Jaguar today revealed JaguarWatch, a tracking service for its cars that the automaker says is the first Internet-based system of its kind in the US. Instead of providing tracking data solely to Jaguar or the police during an emergency, JaguarWatch uses a MicroTRAK GPS unit that relays its information to an Internet-based server. Drivers can track their car from the Web regardless of its current state. Additionally, JaguarWatch can track and flag information according to the driver's own preferences, the company says. The tracker can signal an alert when the Jaguar reaches a user-specified distance from home, and will log the route and speed of the car to either warn the owner of a a possible theft or simply to note the destinations of recent trips. Jaguar plans to sell JaguarWatch for all its car models as an accessory at its dealerships beginning in December 2006; no pricing information is available.
