These companies don't "exclude the majority of its customers from buying their products", you are very welcome to buy their DVDs. But online video sales are a relatively new thing, and the studios want to play it safe. It's just like the beginning of the iTMS for music - starts small, gets bigger soon. I have no doubt that Jobs will announce in his 2007 MWSF keynote that other studios slowly follow suit.
And @ hammer: You are more than right. Both Cars and Pirates were a big part of the marketing buzz when Apple announced movies on the iTMS.. Just goes to show again that journalistic quality doesn't mean a thing here on MacNN.
Well, what does it say about Disney that they submit a new press release to re-announce that they'll be releasing their movies on itunes (not even saying they are released, but announcing they will be released).
And it must be nice to live in a world where you can check out every piece of content you might want to discuss to make sure you haven't discussed it in some sense many, many, many moons ago.
And what if MacNN didn't cover this prior to this point? Does it still not count? Should they only post things that no one out there has heard about? Technically, if you visit other mac sites before coming here, lots of stuff isn't 'news', since you've already known about it...
