VTour for Mac released
Realviz today released VTour for Mac, offering users a solution for the creation of photo-real 3D environments from 2D pictures or panoramas. The software is specifically designed for use with virtual walkthroughs, 3D simulation, virtual reality, urban planning, and modern gaming. Starting directly from digital photographs, or from full 360-degree panoramas, VTour facilitates the creation of 3D scenes such as interiors or urban areas using polygonal photo-textured primitives. Users can export or publish results as a 3D movie or an interactive application using 3D viewers such as SPi-V3d viewer. VTour also supports the creation of geo-referenced 3D scenes for Google Earth. The update allows users to create photo-realistic Web content with a size reduction of 2 to 3, according to Realviz, without any loss in quality. The latest revision also includes an updated SPi-V3d viewer for improved compatibility with Mac systems. Realviz is available for $600, and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later.
VTour for Mac enables users to edit texture compression quality for greater control, and the Spi-V3d viewer combines panorama viewing with interactivity features of the Spi-V engine with the ability to step outside the center of the panoramic image offered by VTour. The SPi-V 3D player also allows users to instantly explore the 3D models exported by the application as Shockwave 3D files. VTour 1.1 exports to Autodesk Maya, allowing users to exports camera, 3D models, textures, 3D points, coordinate systems, and environment maps. The software automatically provides the necessary Maya hierarchy for the exported data, and creates an environment map from the original spherical panorama while providing the MEL script to help the creation of multi-environment projects.
