AirPort exploit released
Security researcher H.D. Moore -- the developer of the Metasploit security tool -- has published attack code that he claims exploits a new security flaw in Apple's AirPort driver. The flaw reportedly affects the AirPort driver provided with wireless cards shipped between 1999 and 2003 in PowerBooks as well as iMacs, and requires that a malicious user be on the same wireless network as a vulnerable Mac. Moor has not succeeded in gaining complete control of a vulnerable Mac, but says it's "just a matter of time and motivation." The current code triggers a fatal kernel panic and forces the victim to power cycle the Mac, according to a report from News.com. An Apple spokeswoman said Apple is investigating the vulnerability, and that the issue "affects a small percentage of previous generation AirPort-enabled Macs and does not affect currently shipping or AirPort Extreme enabled Macs."

...The severity of this, but doesn't instill some pride that the best anyone can come up with in the Malware world for the mac is something that only affects machines that are 3 years old only under certain circumstances?
It's a matter of time and motivation yes, but also hit or miss trying to find a laptop that meets the requirements. Some level of stalking is involved here, too.
