Quark debuts new Flash tool

Quark Interactive Designer

Quark today announced Quark Interactive Designer, its new Flash development application that enables creative professionals to create rich, interactive content such as interactive tours, online ads, and design-driven presentations using QuarkXPress 7. Quark Interactive Designer allows users to design compelling Flash layouts for the Web without any programming skills. The new software enables easy creation of interactive buttons, animations, movies, and dozens of predefined actions for transitioning pages, playing sounds, sliding objects, and creating interactive menus. QID creates SWF files using a "timeline-free" environment--instead allowing users to select from a variety of animation, interactive, and other design options.

"Quark Interactive Designer creates the opportunity to take the intricate, heavily designed printed work we've created for our clients and make it dynamic effortlessly," said Steve Whittier, partner, vice president, and creative director of Factory Design Labs. "This easy-to-use software tool has single-handedly given us the power to offer more to our clients, all while saving us significant time and money. It's always cool to find a new program that you can make something with - and then to have fun putting it to use. For us, this software is a big deal. It's the only one of its kind, and we are already using it on projects."

Quark Interactive Designer eliminates the need for multiple programs to produce multiple outputs and the hazards of potential conversion issues, the company said. Instead, users simply design for multiple channels inside QuarkXPress using "the industry's only" Flash-creation application with built-in collaboration features.

The company said that QID is not meant to replace traditional Flash design tools, but rather to provide an alternative streamlined method for creating relatively simple Flash projects from within QuarkXpress.

"Quark Interactive Designer is not meant to replace the more complex Flash tools on the market today," the company said. "It expands the output options by providing interactive Web and Flash functionality to those users who prefer to stay within QuarkXPress or prefer not to use a product that requires programming. Quark Interactive Designer does not require users to code SWF (Flash) output; similar in the way that designers do not need to code Postscript of PDF to create print output."

Quark Interactive Designer requires QuarkXPress 7.02 or later and is available as a Universal application for Mac OS and Windows for $200. A special introductory offer of $100 is available until April 1st, 2007. In addition, the company said that educational purchasers of QuarkXPress 7 will receive a copy of Quark Interactive Designer at no charge.
