Checkout public beta

Madebysofa has released Checkout public beta, the new point of sale software for Mac users designed a full featured business application. Checkout features instant search capability alongside a wide variety of keyboard shortcuts to ease use and minimize time spent on the computer. The software is designed to handle quick checkouts in retail stores; detail personalized quotes, order, and invoices; and manage stock as well as purchases. Checkout is the only Intel-native point of sale system for the Mac, according to the company, and the first commercial release is slated for shipment in the fourth quarter of 2006. The Checkout public beta requires Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later (pricing was unavailable).

Checkout is easy to use and quick to learn, according to Madebysofa, and enables users to allocate all fresh stock to backorders with a single click. The application includes statistics as well as reports, and tracks every transaction for GAAP-compliant accounting. The software supports adding items by dragging them into a product order, and allows users to scan a product or type a part of its name or product code in the 'scanfield.'

A 'Business' checkbox displays the margin for an order and for each individual item, allowing users to adjust discounts as well as prices directly. Checkout syncs with Apple's Address Book software, supports any currency type, offers full unicode support, and ships with an example store.
