iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED

As anticipated yesterday, Apple today announced the iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition. (RED) was created by U2 lead singer, Bono and Bobby Shriver to engage business in the fight against AIDS in Africa by getting leading companies to make uniquely branded products. A portion of the profits from these products goes directly to the Global Fund to fund programs for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa. The iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED comes in a red aluminum enclosure and features 24 hours of battery life, Apple's innovative Click Wheel and an incredibly thin and light design. Exclusively available from Apple, the company said it will contribute $10 from the sale of each iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED to the Global Fund to help fight HIV/AIDS in Africa. In addition, Apple will also offer a $25 iTunes (PRODUCT) RED gift card available for purchase at Apple's retail and online stores next month.

"We're ecstatic that Apple is giving their customers the choice to buy a red iPod nano and help women and children affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa," said Bono, co-founder of (RED). "It's wonderful to see this incredible level of commitment from companies that are willing to lend their creativity in the fight against AIDS in Africa, the greatest health crisis in 600 years."

The iPod nano (PRODUCT) RED Special Edition is available worldwide in a 4GB model for $200 exclusively through Apple's retail stores and the Apple Store. The new iPod nano models include redesigned earbud headphones and a USB 2.0 cable. The second generation iPod nano features up to 24 hours of battery life and completely skip-free playback. The iTunes (PRODUCT) RED gift card will be available through Apple's retail stores and the Apple Store online next month for $25.

"Now customers can buy the best music player in the world and do something to help the world at the same time," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO. "We're honored to work with Bono, (RED) and this team to contribute to an incredibly important initiative and help change the way people think about AIDS in Africa."

red huh?

Okay it is red. That is fine. Wouldn't it be nice if this and all the other iPods had student pricing, especially since so much of Apple's iPod sales consist of sales to students? I guess Apple controls so much of the mp3 market in the Western world now, so they no longer feel they need to provide a student discount.

That iPod nano (PRODUCT) looks really great in red. I have a feeling this (PRODUCT) is going to be a real hit for Apple and the AIDS initiative, especially as we head into the holiday season where red is the color of choice.

I love the red color so much, I just purchased two of them early this morning. One for me, one for my wife. :) I will have them one week from now...

...for xmas. Lamewing, who cares about AIDS in impoverished nations that can't afford generic drugs to fight HIV just so long as western students gets discounts for luxury goods that they or their parents could buy them... in YOUR case!

student pricing..

..would be nice. They used to have a slight discount. And they just finished their buy a Mac get an iPod promotion. Course, they just lowered the prices on the video iPod (and Nano too?) while adding functionality at last months special event.

I also think the red looks very nice. Hope it does well and raises a lot of relief money.

You're not entitled!

lamewing..... Why do you feel you're so entitled to a discount JUST BECAUSE you're a student? Apple still offers discounts on computers and software. Those discounts are offered as an incentive to buy... NOT as an entitlement.

Student Discount

10/13, 11:44am reply

This is great.

As for the student discount, Apple re-priced all iPods so that the discount is irrelevant. If you look at historic iPod pricing, the shuffle was $79 for students, and now is $79 no matter what. The iPods were $269 and $369 for students, and are now $249 and $349 for all. The nano specs were increased, so it's not fair to compare, but in general, you get more for the same money, or pay less for more product than before, so why are you complaining?

(product) ?

Am I just missing something or what is the (Product) in the name all about? I mean, why does it say (Product) all over the place?

Looks like 'appleisgreat' and 'manuel' are real 'havenots idiots... now all that's missing is testudo .. oh wait, there's nothing bad to say about Apple in this article comments.

The point the OP is trying to make is that Apple used to have discounts for students, but as bfalchuk points out, their regular prices are now way below prior student pricing..
