Wii Web browser not free?

Speaking with AOL Games, Nintendo of America's Reggie Fils-Aime suggests that the Opera Web browser may not be free for the Wii. This would contravene previous statements by IGN and Opera itself, who said that the browser would be free until June of 2007. "In fairness, for the Americas, we haven't made the business decision for how and what we're going to do with the browser," Fils-Aime says. "We recognize for most people a browser is pretty standard. The concept of charging a significant amount of Wii points to get the browser is somewhat challenging. We're going to work through that." There's an alternate interpretation, of course - could Nintendo be planning to keep the browser free forever? That's what Sony's planning for the PS3's Web browser. Sony is, however, a much wealthier corporation.
